► (1881-1942) Escritor austríaco. Tanto en sus biografías noveladas, como en sus novelas, describe procesos morbosos y se muestra psicólogo ingenioso. La aparición de su relato El amor de Erika Ewald (1904) inició una amplia obra literaria.

Escritor austríaco. Fue profundamente influenciado por Sigmund Freud, cuyas teorías psicológicas inspiraron los análisis que Zweig dedicó a diversas figuras históricas y la fina caracterización de los personajes que pueblan sus relatos. Entre sus ensayos se destacan los estudios sobre Honoré de Balzac, Charles Dickens, y Fiódor Dostoievski, en Tres maestros (1920); y sobre Friedrich Hölderlin, Heinrich Kleist y Friedrich Nietzsche, en Master Builders [La lucha con el demonio] (1925). Alcanzó gran popularidad con Momentos estelares de la humanidad (1928), compuesto de cinco retratos históricos en miniatura. También escribió biografías, poesía, cuentos, obras de teatro y una novela. Forzado a exiliarse por los nazis en 1934, Zweig y su segunda esposa se trasladaron primero a Inglaterra y luego a Brasil, donde sumidos en la desesperanza y la soledad, se suicidaron.
